How admission works
Admission rules differ by country. In Germany, most universities are applied to via the uni-assist portal, and Azerbaijani applicants need an APS certificate. In Poland you apply directly to the university, and in Hungary through the Stipendium Hungaricum program.

Visa process
National long-stay visa (type D) — for the specific Schengen country. After arrival you switch to a national residence permit. A visa for one Schengen country allows travel in all 27.
Application point: the country's embassy in Baku (e.g. German Embassy, Polish Embassy). For some countries via VFS Global.

SIM card
Get a student package from operators like Vodafone, Orange or T-Mobile. Official registration with a passport is required; eSIM is also available.
Bank account
Digital banks like Wise, Revolut or N26 are fast and low-fee. In Germany a classic Sparkasse or N26 is also an option.
Transport card
The semester fee usually includes city transport (Deutschlandticket, etc.). Use your student card for rides.

Is German education really free?
Yes, public universities charge no tuition for Bachelor's and Master's. Only a semester fee (€150–350) is paid, which includes a transport ticket.
Can I find an English program without knowing German?
Yes, especially at the Master's level there are hundreds of English programs. At the Bachelor's level English programs are fewer.
