English-taught MBBS programs are Ukraine's main draw for Azerbaijanis. Many medical universities offer full English-medium tracks.

Bologna-style diploma
A diploma aligned with the European Bologna system. It is recognized in many countries and allows master's-level mobility.
Familiar Slavic language option
Ukrainian and Russian preparatory classes are available. The transition to a Slavic language is relatively easy for Azerbaijanis.
Exam-free admission (by certificate)
For many programs admission is based on a certificate/diploma; no DIM, SAT or local exam is required. Some faculties hold an interview.

How admission to Ukraine works
Most Ukrainian universities admit foreign students on the basis of a certificate (or diploma) and do not require a national entrance exam. For English-taught medicine (MBBS) there is usually a short interview or a biology-chemistry check; for Ukrainian/Russian-language study a one-year preparatory class is required.

Ukrainian student visa (Type D — long-term, for study)
Where to apply: Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Azerbaijan (Baku). Check azerbaijan.mfa.gov.ua for the address, working hours and current consular status.

Ukrainian state budget scholarships (quota)
mon.gov.uaThe Ukrainian government allocates a limited number of budget (free) places for foreign students. They are mainly for Ukrainian-language study and the competition is high.
Places are very limited; a fully free option is rare.

Some universities may offer a 5–15% tuition discount based on academic success, timely payment or social situation.

Student life in Ukraine — practical tips
Mobile connection (Kyivstar, Vodafone, lifecell)
Get a SIM card officially registered with your passport. Kyivstar, Vodafone Ukraine and lifecell are the main operators.
Second SIM / eSIM and roaming
Keep your Azerbaijani number active and get an eSIM as backup. During air raids mobile networks may temporarily weaken.

Is it safe to study in Ukraine right now?
Due to the war ongoing since 2022, the situation is unstable. Western Ukraine (Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk) is relatively calmer, but no city can be considered fully safe. Many universities offer online/distance or hybrid formats. Verify the current status with the Embassy before deciding.
Is it possible to study medicine (MBBS) in English?
Yes. Many medical universities such as Bogomolets, Lviv NMU and Kharkiv NMU offer full English-medium medicine programs. No Ukrainian/Russian preparatory year is required, though there may be a short interview.
Is the DIM required from Azerbaijan?
No. The Ukrainian admission system is independent and does not require DIM or SAT results. Admission is usually based on a certificate and an invitation letter.
Is a Ukrainian diploma recognized in Azerbaijan?
Generally yes. Ukrainian diplomas are aligned with the Bologna system and are recognized. Some specialties (especially in medicine) may require nostrification or an additional recognition procedure.
